Chatpatit Bhel Puri

I still remember, in school recess we used to eat bhel puri, pani puri, chat, samosa and lot more.  Bhel Puri is one of my favorite street food. Thought street food not hygienic these days but its quick and easy to make at home.  Bhel puri can be made suki(dry) by skipping addition of chutneys and adding spiced puffed rice(bhadang) instead of plain. Or made wet by adding flavorful chutneys.

Whether its bhel puri, pani puri or chat is simply addiction. You can't stop yourself to eat even if you are full. These dishes awaken your taste buds with an explosion of flavors, colors and textures. Typical Bhel Puri is a mixture of puffed rice, sev (fried chickpea noodles) or Indian hot mix, onions, tomatoes, chilies and some sweet spicy, sour, tangy, hot chutneys.

Make it healthy by adding veggies like shredded carrots, beetroots, boiled potatoes, sweet potatoes, cucumber and many more veggies of your choice. Try it out once, it will leave you craving for more!
Sending chatpatit bhel puri to BM #14, Rasya's I am the Star.

Time: 10 minutes
Serves - 2

Ingredients:

2 cups Puffed Rice / Murmura (preferred Kolhapuri Murmura)
1/2 cup tomatoes(finely chopped)
1/2 cup onion (finely chopped)
1/4 cup green shallots(finely chopped)
2 green chillies (finely chopped)
2 tbsp raw mango(finely chopped optional)
1/4 cup green chutney(quantity as per choice)
1/4 cup tamarind chutney(quantity as per choice)
2 tbsp coriander leaves(finely chopped)
1 cup sev / Indian hot mix
salt to taste

Method:

1. In big colander, add tomatoes, onions, coriander leaves, green shallots, chile, green chutney and tamarind chutney. Toss together.

2. Just before serving, add puffed rice and sev or Indian hot mix. Vigorously toss everything.  Serve immediately.

Note:
1. Addition of  boiled potato, shredded carrots, diced cucumber veggies of your choice goes well in bhel puri.
2. Once it’s mixed, it needs to be eaten right away for the same reason that you don’t want to let cereal sink in a bowl of milk.
