Semolina( Rava/Suji )Upma

When you feel like famish or extremely hungry or just having craving to eat then this is what you need. Quick and easy yet delicious homemade food.

I love breakfast! Upma was on my favorite list while growing up. I like upma dry and prefer only onions added to it. But you can make upma wholesome by adding any choice of vegetables.

Here is my simple and delicious upma recipe.

Ingredient:
1 Cup rava( semolina/Suji)
1 onion (finely chopped)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 green chillies(chopped)
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp urad dal
A few curry leaves
1/4 Cup peanuts
Coriander leaves, chopped, for garnish
few tbsp Indian hot mix(optional)
1 tsp Olive oil
Salt to taste

Method:

1. Dry roast the rava in a deep non stick pan until it turns a light brown. Transfer to a bowl when done and keep aside to cool.

2. Heat oil in the same pan, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, and peanuts. Saute for few minutes.

3. When the dal turns golden brown and peanuts well roasted, add the onions and green chilies. Saute till onions turns golden brown.

4. Now add salt, turmeric powder, roasted rava and mix well. Turn the heat low. Add about 3 cups of water. Stir continuously to avoid lumps. Cover with lid.

5. Cook for about 10 minutes stirring occasionally. Cook till desired consistency of upma(dry or smooth).

6. Garnish with coriader leaves and indian hot mix

7. Serve hot with lemon/lime wedges and with hot cuppa tea.

Note:
1. Always perfer fine semolina(rava/suji) for upma.
2. Potatoes, tomatoes, peas and carrots taste good in upma.
